Minister’s Medal for Brescia House School Head of High School Sport
Head of High School Sport at Brescia House School, Michelle Joubert, was awarded the Ministers Excellence Award at the South African Sports Awards, held in Durban this past weekend. The awards were presented to South African athletes and officials who excelled on the international stage. ‘Michelle’s passion and drive are admirable,’ said Loredana Borello, Head of Brescia House High School. ‘We are so incredibly proud of her and proud to have someone who is so experienced and enthusiastic on our team. Our students are not only benefitting from her expertise but also from her commitment to long term physical wellbeing, regardless of the sport or activity.’
‘Recognition is always nice to receive, but has never, and will never be my ‘reason’ for doing what I am doing,’ says Joubert. ‘I have always had a passion for sport, especially hockey, and I know that now is my time to step aside to allow others the opportunity to continue representing South Africa at the top levels. I am humbled not only by this award, but for every opportunity I have had throughout my career. None of my achievements or accolades would have been possible without the support from my family, friends and colleagues who have walked this path with me. I will always remain true to myself, remember my humble beginnings, and stay true to the values which were instilled in me at a very young age.
Nothing in life comes without a price, a lot of hard work, dedication, and some challenging moments. When you choose a career path in life, you do not choose it because of the trophies, accolades, or rewards, you choose it because you find ‘yourself’, a place where you belong.
To my Brescia House School family, I will forever be indebted to them for their continued support and guidance. I have a deep passion for working with children, to see them grow in confidence as they take on challenges outside their comfort zones, to celebrate their ‘highs’ with them and support them through the tougher times. I believe that everyone has potential, talent and something to give and it is through teaching and coaching that we play such an important role to allow these young individuals to experience life, prepare them for life outside the school environment, and allow them to develop, grow and become the best versions of themselves.’
