Sacred Heart College Sports & Creative Arts
High school students from Dominican Convent School, Holy Family College and Rising Stars Academy all joined Sacred Heart College students for the Sports and Creative Arts Festival hosted by Sacred Heart College in Observatory, Johannesburg, to celebrate and honour Youth Day.
Sports played were netball and soccer, and all the schools participating did exceptionally well. It was also an opportunity for schools to share cultural experiences with choirs, marimbas and the drama workshops that allowed students to express themselves through their art.
“The point of the Youth Day Festival is to give our young people a sense of hope as they come out of the uncertainty of COVID-19, and as we celebrate what it means to be part of Youth Month, and also to celebrate Pride Month. Two really important issues for young people at the moment. Youth Day celebrates our past, and Pride Month acknowledges that children are struggling with identity.” said the Head of College, Heather Blanckensee.
The festival allowed students from different schools to reunite, dive into each other’s cultures and build relationships that will mutually benefit them.
