Curro Aurora High School Hockey
As the sun sets this evening, the boys’ hockey season draws to an end. We are extremely proud of all of our boys’ teams and the progress they have made this season. Not only have they pulled off impressive results against some top quality sides, but they have grown in numbers so much so that we introduced a 3rd team to our set up.
In addition to the above, a number of our players made their way through the SGHA trials process. The following players were selected into their respective district teams:
- Busisa Mabaso (U14)
- Cameron Greeves (U16)
- Asad Davids (U18)
Busisa Mabaso proceeded to the final rounds and has been selected into a Southern Gauteng team. He will receive his colours tomorrow evening at a formal capping ceremony. A number of the boys are also in the running to be drafted into Joburg Hockey League franchises for the upcoming JHL3 Junior Series and we look forward to seeing the Curro Aurora name continue making waves in the greater hockey community.
The successes of all of our ladies is testament to the hard work and dedication that every single player, coach and manager has given this season. As with the boys, our girls’ section grew to 3 squad army, making history for our school having a total of 6 hockey teams for the first time ever.
One of our 1st Team Girls, Nonhle Mabaso (Grade 11) was sent through the SGHA trial process and was selected for the U18A D10 team. If we had to pick one word to describe our season, it would be “growth”. Growth, not only in numbers, but in strength, development of culture and values, and in sportsmanship.
Well done to all of our girls and boys on a great season and we can’t wait to see what the future holds! Curro Aurora hockey truly is on the rise.
