Linden Hockey excels
Hoërskool Linden’s hockey excels as the school’s first- and under-15 boys teams proved their worth at this years Aitken & Boden Hockey-tournament. The Boden-team (under 15’s) finished 4th in the B-division of the tournament, whilst the first team also known in this tournament as the Aitken-team, excelled and won the B-section of the tournament, with a final score of 3-2 against Hoërskool Monument.
This momentous win is extra special for the team as they had only competed in the tournament once before, in 2019. In that year the team started out in the C-division of the tournament and managed to win the division. The team then moved up to the B-division, which they hadn’t been able to play due to Covid until this year. Entering the tournament this past weekend, as new additions to the B-division, the team managed to do exceptionally well in their pool games winning against Curro Aurora, Rand Park High, Marais Viljoen and St. Peters College whilst losing one game, 2-3, to Monnas. The team progressed to the finals and sat the record straight in the final game against Monument, this time defeating them 3-2. What an exceptional path this team has followed with their coach, Leon Keulder, for the last four years and the best is yet to come. “Hard work, dedication and discipline payed off and the school is especially proud of our boys,” says Hoërskool Linden’s sports manager Rúan Basson.
