Abbotts College Johannesburg South Student reaches for the stars
Abbotts College Johannesburg South Student plays it by ear and reaches for the stars! On the 26th of August 2022, Roland Piano’s hosted The Roland Piano Experience, where budding pianists were featured at the finals of the school’s competition. Five High School finalists and Five Primary School finalists were selected from the Gauteng entrants to perform at the Atterbury Theatre. This was a prestigious evening with entertainment from Tarryn Lamb and Kyle Peterson, some of South Africa’s top performers.
Jordan Sloan from Abbotts College Johannesburg South, president of their SRC, was one of the 5 High School finalists who played a piece called “Time” by Hans Zimmer. This is an incredibly technical piece, and Jordan shone! Amazingly, Jordan has never had a piano lesson in his life and is self-taught. He cannot read a note of music and managed to play one of the most advanced pieces of the evening just by ear. Jordan hopes to take his music career further and may even start to learn to read music! Congratulations to this phenomenal student for making the Top 5!
