The annual Gelofte Night Series came to an exciting finale on Friday evening with HHS playing in the finals for both rugby and hockey, and in the play-offs for bronze in the netball.
The HHS hockey girls did extremely well throughout the series with the unusual result that HHS 1st team girls faced HHS 2nd team in the finals! The 1st girls won the match 5-0 and we congratulate them on winning the gold medal, with the 2nd team winning silver! 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀!
The 1st team rugby boys played against Gelofte in the finals and at the end of a very exciting game they narrowly lost 7-10, resulting in silver medals for HHS rugby boys.
The 1st team netball won their play-offs against Durban Girls 28-18 to take the bronze medal for the series.
Well done to all our sports men and women! Hillcrest High School Rugby Coach Mr Dusty Noble said, “From the first game we went in with eyes wide open as we were a new team with no game experience and didn’t know what to expect. The rugby boys were brave in uncertain times – from losing their first game to come back to win the next 3 games and reaching the final, shows a lot of character. The boys grew as a team and as individuals. I could not have asked for more”.
