St Benedict’s School Annual Embrace Symposium
St Benedict’s hosted their one-day annual Embrace Symposium with the theme Transforming our School through Advocacy for Gender Justice, facilitated by inspiring guest speakers. Advocate Andrea Johnson was a true inspiration as she recounted her journey as a young girl growing up in the rural areas of KZN to now holding a high position in South African courts. She is down to earth, funny and a role model for young people, especially girls, as they pursue their dreams.
A national treasure, Caster Semenya, had very inspiring words to say: “I am the biggest advocate of my life” as she shared how she has not once wavered, doubted herself or allowed the public to sway her from her goals and purpose. A very important thread ran through the symposium: as teachers, parents and pupils, we all need to change perceptions, dismantle stereotypes and wholeheartedly embrace that there is growth and beauty in diversity. Mrs Chantelle Silva-Williams, Mrs Nanku Phala and Mrs Tanya Hill attended on behalf of De La Salle Holy Cross College.
