Eastern Cape Majorettes Recieve SAMCA Badges
Eastern Cape Majorette and Cheerleading Association (ECMCA) are extremely proud to announce that National Colours were awarded to 3 Eastern Cape Majorettes.
Wayne Oberem, President of the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association awarded National Colours to Akko Beya from Hudson High school, Clara de Lange from Stirling High School and Tariro Chinamasa from Merrifield. They were awarded in recognition of their dedication to the sport and having successfully participated in National Colours trials.
A few words from each Majorette
Clara De Lange:
“I started drummies in 2014, in grade 2, not having the slightest idea of what I wanted to achieve one day. In 2015 I was awarded my Eastern Cape colors and that was when I realized I wanted to go further in the sport. I also went to SAMCA trials in 2015, but did not make it, however, it made me work hard for what I wanted. The next trials was held in January 2020 where I was successful and was awarded with my SAMCA colors. It has been an exciting 8 years and I would not have been able to do it without my number one supporter, my coach, Tracy Riddin.”
Akho Beya:
“It wasn’t easy to wake up and go out to learn new moves from the morning and returning in the evenings , there was a time of wanting to give up but then i thought giving up would be a waste and coming back with disappointment. So i had told myself to push thru try outs till the last minute and put a smile on my face , giving it my all.”
Tariro Chinamasa:
“My journey with drummies started in 2015, when I was in grade 2. My older sister had joined the sport the year before. I remember watching her practice with the team and and I was very intrigued. My primary coach, Amy Bezuidenhout, asked me if I wanted to join as they were desperate for more teammates to go to nationals and I obviously said yes. I remember going to Nationals for the first time and seeing girls with their green Protea blazers and I told myself that I will one day get to wear that blazer.
That was my motivation throughout my journey. I achieved my Eastern Cape colours in 2017 and went to try out for my SAMCA colours in December, 2017. I didn’t get them the first try, but that gave me motivation to become better and better. I tried out again in January 2020 and finally achieved my SAMCA colours because of my dedication and love for the sport.”
