[Interview] Casey Keevy: Grey High 1st team hockey captain
AWSUM had a chat with Casey Keevy, first team hockey captain of Grey High. We asked him about their season and what his expectations are for the game against Selborne College.
What is the highlight of your team’s hockey season this year?
I think one of the team’s biggest highlights must be beating Grey Bloem 2 – 0 in Bloemfontein, either that or beating Hilton College at Tourney Garden in East London early in the season, but both were very big games for us, and the boys managed to arise to the occasion.
How do you motivate your team?
Generally, I don’t really have to motivate the boys because they are always locked in before every game, they are always focused and know they have a job to do ahead of them. Normally we get together an hour before the game and chat, banter a bit, get in the zone, and just switch on as a team.
Are you happy with your team’s line-up for Saturday’s derby? Do you have any injuries in your team?
I think that everyone who comes into the team is a quality player and we always back them. We had about one or two injuries, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are quality players coming up into our system and that we back them one hundred percent.
What do you as a team want to achieve this year? What will make you proud?
I think our main goal coming to the back end of the season is beating Selborne College. If we do manage to beat them, we will be undefeated this year – that will be a proud moment for the team.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans are still very undecided at the moment. I am always pushing one way and then life throws me another curveball that sort of changes my decision, but I think one of my big options is to go to Holland and play for a club and try my best to make the best of the situation.
