[Interview] Roan Janse van Rensburg: Grey College 1st team hockey captain
AWSUM had a chat with Roan Janse van Rensburg, first team hockey captain of Grey College. We asked him about their season and what his expectations are for the game against Paul Roos.
What is the highlight of your team’s hockey season this year?
Our greatest moment was when we beat Selborne College away from home.
How do you motivate your team?
As a captain I believe that you must lead by example by playing every game for the school as it might be your last.
Who is your vice-captain?
Jacques Els.
Are you happy with your team’s line-up against Paul Roos? Do you have any injuries in your team?
The team is extremely excited for the game against PRG as it is our first one since 2019.Yes, we have had setbacks with injuries in the team as every sport has its challenges, but we believe it has made us as a team stronger and brought us together.
What do you as a team want to achieve this year? What will make you proud?
We believe it has been a good year and we would like to end of the year on a high note.
What are your plans for the future?
Roan: To build on the year 2022 and to keep on instilling the Grey College values throughout 2023. Jacques: To work on my studies at Maties and make sure that I have the opportunity to play the game I love.
