Better late than never for the official opening of Curro Academy The Blyde Independent School
The main school hall at Curro Academy The Blyde was a buzz with activity on Tuesday, 28 June as staff, learners, parents, and community leaders gathered for a successful opening ceremony. Even though the school opened its doors to receive learners from 3 – 5 years in January 2020, a proper celebration to honour its commitment to both learners and the wider community was simply not possible due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The school is now offering education from 3 years to grade 5 and will be introducing grade 6 and 7 in 2023. “It is so lovely to finally be able to welcome parents, teachers, and the wider community to our wonderful, fully-fledged primary school. There has been a pressing need for intermediate phase education in this area for some time now and we are so excited to be able to meet this need head-on,” says Mrs. Alet Bissett, Executive Head at Curro Academy The Blyde.
Mrs. Bissett addressed the parents and the guests, and explained more about the school’s phenomenal growth, with increased learner numbers. Special guest Mr. Andries Greyling, the CEO of Curro Holdings was also on hand, providing an overview of the wider Curro community while Mr. Fergus Sampson, Business Executive at Curro, unveiled the school plaque.
Blydie – the official school mascot was also part of the event and brought so much joy to the learners. Designed by a learner at the school, Blydie is a proud member of the school community and will be a friendly fixture at all school events going forward. Situated next to The Blyde Lifestyle Estate in Pretoria East, this state-of-the-art school is a co-ed, single-medium English facility and forms part of the JSE-listed Independent school operator, Curro Holdings’ prized Academy school model. While the fee structure is competitive, the academic standards are uncompromising, with controlled class size. Under the careful management of Curro Holdings, learners follow the quality Curro curriculum and enjoy a host of varied extramural activities outside of the classroom, such as soccer, netball, athletics, and tennis.
